Abstract
Organizations across the world continue to experience workplace disputes in many forms marking negative impacts on the employees, employers, stakeholders, government, consumers and the economy. Using a postpositivist pardigm and a descriptive research design, this study examined the effect of authentic leadership on good industrial relations in tea estates in Limuru; Kiambu County, Kenya. The specific objectives of the study were to explore leader’s self-awareness, relational transparency, balanced processing and internal moral standards and values influence good industrial relations. The study was carried out in the three selected tea estates in Limuru Sub-County; targeting 2,320 participants identified through stratified random sampling. Data was collected through structured questionaires containing both open and closed-ended questions. The data was analysed using a data management software ,SPSS; a statistical package for social
sciences Version 23. Descriptive statistics used to analyse and interpret data and presented as charts, graphs and tables. The results revealed that a leader’s self-awareness, balanced processing, relational transparency and internalized morals had statistical significant influence on good industrial relations in tea estates in Limuru Sub-County. It indicates that good industrial relations can be achieved through authentic leadership; where leaders exhibit transparency, trust, confidence and uphold morals values and ethical leadership. The study identified highest existence of a positive correration between leaders’ moral standards and good industrial relations. The study recommends the need for leaders to be analytical concerning relevant data before coming up with decisions while taking into consideration repurcusssions of their leadership styles. The study informs leadership practice on the need for sustainable strategies and leadership approaches to enhance good industrial relations in Kenya. The study is useful for national and county government as it informs them of the need for policy guidelines for continuous improvement of industrial relations specifically for the tea industry and other similar organizations.
